Textile Design in Scandinavia
FALL 2024 | TEXTILE | ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR
The objective for this project was to create a textile design inspired by local nature and architecture in Copenhagen. Throughout the process, I was introduced to many textile designers from Scandinavia to learn about the textile design process and overall look connected to the area.
Concept
My original design was intended to furnish chairs in a graphic design studio (left image above), as a way to bring in more color and visual interest to the room. However, a larger application for the textile is public areas in need of furnishing fabric to hide dirt and wear, such as trains or restraurants. The final pattern was heat-transferred onto a polyester velvet fabric.
Process
My design took elements found in a local courtyard, including cobblestone walkways, metal fencing, wooden benches, and tree trunks all meshed together into these abstract shapes in a straight repeat. The image above is a series of sketches that contributed to the final design. The images below are final sketches and prototypes of the design on different materials.
